lawmaker defends KPK

House of Representatives law commission member Bambang Soesatyo said he regretted House Speaker Marzuki Alie’s latest remarks that raised the possibility of dissolving the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), saying it showed the government’s lack of support of efforts against graft.
“It is obvious that the statement runs counter to the national will in combating graft,” he said on Sunday in a statement sent to tribunnews.com.
Bambang's statement came in response to Marzuki’s recently encouraging the government to make a final evaluation of whether or not the KPK should remain the spearhead in fighting graft, considering that the integrity of certain KPK leaders had been compromised.
Bambang said the House should rather encourage the KPK to undergo massive internal cleansing to prove to the public that it still had the right to lead the fight against graft.
